Everyone is talking about AI fluency. Let’s talk human fluency.

Human Fluency is a coaching practice for leaders, founders and people doing demanding, creative, high-stakes work — built around the capacities that let you navigate pressure, change and complexity without losing yourself in the process.

What is Human Fluency? ⟶

Six fluencies. One underlying capacity: fluency itself — the ability to move between states without getting stuck.

THE PRACTICE

Most professional development focuses on what you know, or what you can do. Human Fluency is about something underneath that — your capacity to stay clear, adaptive and grounded as things get harder, faster, and less certain.

I work with six interconnected fluencies. They're not a checklist to complete — they're different facets of the same underlying capacity, and strengthening one tends to strengthen the others.

How they interact

In coaching, these fluencies rarely show up in isolation. A leader who comes in wanting help with "creativity" often finds the real lever is inner fluency — their nervous system is too taxed to access original thought. Someone working on relational fluency often discovers an ethical fluency question underneath — a values misalignment they've been working around rather than through.

This is why Human Fluency coaching doesn't move through the six fluencies as a curriculum. Instead, we follow what's live for you — and because the fluencies are interconnected, progress in one area tends to create movement in the others, often before we've explicitly addressed them.

"Flourishing is not a high score on stable measures. It is range and transition fluency — the ability to move between states without becoming trapped in any of them."

INNER FLUENCY

Nervous system flexibility — the ability to move between focus, connection, rest and recovery without getting stuck in any one state.

ADAPTIVE FLUENCY

Navigating change and uncertainty without defaulting to rigidity or burnout — staying responsive when the ground shifts.

RELATIONAL FLUENCY

Showing up well in relationships that matter — at work, at home — especially when stakes are high and energy is low.

ETHICAL FLUENCY

Staying aligned with your own values under pressure — and accounting for how your choices land on the people and systems around you, not just on you.

CREATIVE FLUENCY

Accessing original thinking under pressure — the capacity that's hardest to replace, and easiest to lose when you're depleted.

INNER FLUENCY

The capacity to see further ahead and think in longer arcs — so today's decisions hold up against tomorrow's consequences.

WHO THIS IS FOR

For people who know
the real work is internal.

Human Fluency tends to resonate most with people who are already capable and successful by external measures — and who sense that the next level of growth, or the next level of sustainability, has to come from somewhere other than working harder.

  • Founders and executives navigating growth, transition or sustained pressure, who want to lead well without burning out — themselves or the people around them.

  • Creative and knowledge professionals whose work depends on clarity, originality and judgement — and who notice those capacities fraying under load.

  • Leaders at a turning point — a promotion, a pivot, a season of significant change — who want to navigate it with more steadiness and less reactivity.

  • People who've done "the work" before — therapy, coaching, leadership programs — and are ready for something that integrates the inner and the practical, rather than treating them separately.

THREE WAYS TO WORK WITH ME

From a single conversation to an ongoing practice.

Most people start with a discovery call to get a feel for the work, then move into one of the formats below depending on what they need.

1:1 COACHING

Three-month engagement

Fortnightly sessions

A structured coaching relationship working across the six fluencies — building the inner and interpersonal capacities that support sustained performance, wellbeing and clarity. Most clients continue beyond the initial three months.

EXECUTIVE COACHING

3-12 month engagement

Monthly cadence

A longer-term advisory relationship for senior leaders — applying Human Fluency to the specific demands of leading at the top of an organisation, often alongside board or executive transitions.

INTENSIVES

1-Day workshop

A structured deep dive

A condensed, structured experience for people who want to go deep quickly — often used as an entry point before an ongoing coaching relationship, or as a standalone reset at a turning point.

WHAT I BELIEVE

The convictions behind this work.

I believe the inner work is the real work — and that it's worth doing with the same rigour and seriousness we bring to any professional development. I believe the most important leadership any of us will ever do is of ourselves, and that this leadership, practised well, makes everything else more effective, more humane, and more worth doing.

I don't think AI is the problem — and I don't think resisting it is the answer. The answer is developing the specifically human capacities that make the technology serve something worth serving.
